«Caravaggio and his followers» in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow

The Museum of Fine Arts opens the exhibition «Caravaggio and his followers».

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio is the famous Italian artist, who influenced the art in general, as he was a founder of a new style of painting for his time – realism.

His works amazed contemporaries with their dramatic effect, despite the fact that at that time (XVI — XVII centuries) baroque was the main style. In the early period of his creation Caravaggio was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci`s works. Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was highly controversial person: on the one hand, he was a rebel by his nature and lived against the rules and on the other hand, he was the official artist of the Madrid court.

Caravaggio`s art influenced many artists and we can see it in the forthcoming exhibition, which will represent not only Caravaggio`s paintings, but also his followers` ones, who willingly adopted his spectacular techniques, but did not have his passion.
